Stop #46: Airline Road Moraine
Location:
Route 9, Aurora, 3 miles east of Route 179. Drive by—no specific stop, although there are several places to pull over and view from the roadside.

Geology:
Katahdin Esker: On Route 9 is located the crest of the Katahdin esker for a distance of 2 miles. Here, along a segment called the whale back, the esker is composed of several prominent interwoven ridges. The Katahdin Esker extends roughly 120 miles, from Pineo Ridge northwest to the Mount Katahdin area.
