Stop #39: Lubec Moraine

Geology:
Lubec Moraine: This section of road is located in a cluster of closely spaced, prominent moraines of the Pineo Ridge Moraine System, nearly parallel to Route 189. One of these moraines, informally called the Lubec Moraine, is traversed by Route 189 along the Lubec Peninsula. Note the sand and gravel interior of the moraine exposed in the roadside pits near the water standpipe as you approach town.
